PRESSBexar County Pretrial Materials
When supervision officers from Bexar County Pretrial needed to track down a violent defendant in direct violation of a no-contact order, CheckUps quickly stepped in to help. Despite an active warrant resulting from a history of domestic violence, the defendant in question followed and then attacked his victim in a restaurant. The victim, in immediate danger, fled the scene and called San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) and their Crisis Response Team who immediately notified CheckUps. Within minutes, the CheckUps team had the defendant’s precise location tracked and relayed back to the police to help bring him into custody.
Each day, CheckUps’ software assists Domestic Violence Officers as they work to keep victims like this safe from their harassers. As caseloads have grown at Bexar County Pretrial, CheckUps has reduced orientation time for defendants entering the system, via a virtual group orientation program, and has taken check-ins completely online, allowing supervision officers more time to focus on the highest-risk defendants while maintaining a level of supervision critical to keeping victims in Bexar County safe.

One of the best features [of CheckUps] is how they handle group orientation virtually for defendants. Before, we had to address orientation individually for each person, which was time consuming. Now the app takes care of this and alleviates a lot of time for our supervisors.
The CheckUps team was very helpful and open to hearing our feedback.
CheckUps makes checking-in a lot easier on both sides, supervisor and defendant.
